Shelf Life

Shelf Life

"There is no frigate like a book..." Emily Dickinson said that. This year SHELF LIFE explores titles that take us places, real places. Where a story takes place matters in each of the featured books. As always, the selections offer compelling characters, thought-provoking conundrums, and a range of inspiring writing. Travel on a budget—libraries are free, and "Go Green," no jet fuel required—trust SHELF LIFE for reading adventures. AWAY WE GO!

After almost four decades working in elementary, middle school, and college classrooms, I retired from full-time teaching. Today I remain committed to learning, reading and writing. I began SHELF LIFE, a young adult literature recommendation vlog, in the fall of 2017.

Active membership in the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), my Oregon affiliate OCTE, ALAN (Assembly on Literature for Adolescents of NCTE) and work as a substitute teacher keep me busy and engaged.

I hope SHELF LIFE can feed the need to read, write, and talk text!
